Tibetan Thangka of Protection

This thangka is kept in most Tibetan homes and displayed on various occcasions in order to ward off evil influences and usher in prosperity. The central figure depicts the ventral part of the Great Universal Turtle- a fierce manifestation of Manjushri lying on its back and surrounded by the flames of protection. Engulfed within the flames , at the very centre are the numerical signs of the nine-mewas (influencing deities), followed by the five cosmic manifestations of wood, earth, metal , water and the twelve animals manifesting the twelve offering goddesses representing both the twelve months and twelve -years cycle.
